It's been a while since the last time I posted any review. Forgive me, friends. Things have been a bit hectic this past years, I almost don't have time to sit down and write anymore. Good things, though. Happy things :)

Don't get me wrong. I do watch movies. But not as often I would like to. To tell you the truth, I moved to a place where they don't even have a cinema. *Gasp! Yep, believe it, people. The nearest one is 1 and half hour drive. Anyway, I'm a bit rusty. I just thought I want to continue updating my reviews again but there are so many movies that has been released since my last post! Where do I start?

I guess I'll start with one movie from back from the year 2008, from our own and only director, JJ Abrams, Cloverfield. I have to admit, I worship this guy. I think it's safe to say that no one can come up with a super suspense teaser like this guy. He's evil that way, isn't he? Just to refresh our memories, let me show you the trailer that got most of us waiting for a year just to watch this movie. That's another evil thing about him. On the trailer, never a date. Just the year of when the movie's going to come out.

By the way, JJ have a gift when it comes to movies about monsters, aliens, crazy scientist from the 14th century.. you know, unexplainable stuff like those. He's simply a genius when it comes to portraying morbid and scary things. I could only imagine how the inside of his brain looks like. The guy is sick, in a good way. Which shows in this movie. When watching it, plenty of time my reaction was pretty much the same like that guy was when the head of the statue of liberty fell in the middle of the road.. "oh my god! oh my god! oh my god!"

Another thing about JJ is, he loves.. I mean, really really really loves doing a reverse story-telling kind of movie. You know, like, the minute the movie start the whole city is burning then they will proceed to.. "24 hours earlier". It works when he does it. It makes us curious, managing us to stay in our seat, enduring the whole 90 minutes of shaky and spinning picture. Which reminds me that, that's the only minus in this movie, I suppose. The eye sore of it I would call it, or the blair-witch-project like. But then, if you think of it, the minus point is also what makes the movie so believable. You're able to connect with those characters and can almost feel the terror that they were experiencing. Which is exactly the reason I went, "oh my god! oh my god! oh my god!"

Long story short, although I was in a desperate need for a pair of sunglasses and some aspirin afterwards, it was all well worth the money and the torture. I had the chance to discuss the movie with some friends and most of them pretty much have the same opinion. Which is, as pissed as they were at the way the story were told (through the shaky and bad skills of recording a video) it was an awesome movie. Folks, I think Cloverfield deserves a 4 stars. Well done yet again, JJ!

American Gangster

Before this movie got out, I never even heard about Frank Lucas. Honestly, I never thought that a black guy could become so efficient in crime. Most of them are too busy shooting at each other just because they live in a different street name. Can’t seem to kill people for a proper reason let alone running an organized crime. So, when I saw the American Gangster movie trailer, I was so surprise. I thought, “For real? A black mafia?”

But then when you hear the word mafia the things that come to mind will be the Italians or the Russians, right? I suppose, that’s why the word ‘gangster’ is more appropriate for Frank Lucas and this movie. A super cool gangster, I might add. And this is what the movie is about, a black guy name Frank Lucas, the American Gangster.

I liked the way this movie showed how Frank Lucas changed his life from being a driver to a very successful dope supplier. They showed us what kind of man Frank Lucas is and what he did in order to be on top. How he doesn’t take any bullshit from anybody and how strict he is. The best part is when he stressed the importance of dressing right and not to be too showy so that people won’t start to raise an eyebrow and wonder who you are. That’s just the best advice there is!

American Gangster is a cool movie and did a great job teleporting the audiences to the 70’s. Plus, from this movie you could almost see how the real Frank Lucas is especially when he’s mad or when he started with that “My man…” tone. The thing is, he’s like a lose cannon. One minute he’s all warm and loving, and another minute he turns to be this cold blooded soul that no one would ever dare to mess with. My point is Denzel Washington without a doubt conquered his character very well.

So, if you’re looking for the Harlem version of Godfather, this is it. Hundred percent quality gangster movie showing you the rise and fall of a powerful mob leader. Lots of bribery, dirty cops, dopes, shooting and… ah yes, nude chicks! Therefore, my man… I give American Gangster 4 stars out of 5.

Rendition

Rendition is about an Egyptian-born chemical engineer, Anwar El-Ibrahimi who suddenly became a suspect to a suicide bombing incident. From the point of view of everyone else, he simply disappeared from the airport which doesn’t make sense because the record has shown that he boarded the plane but he never landed. When the truth is, he was escorted to a room and after some interrogation he was taken to a secret location which is where the United State government brings all the suspected terrorists for ‘questioning’.

This movie’s adjective is quite simple actually. To tell us all about ‘Rendition’ which is a real thing. I personally think that this movie was inspired by the Maher Arar’s case, a Syrian-born Canadian citizen and a father of two whom has to endure almost a year of solitary confinement and torture in a prison in Syria. This is where the United States government took him after he was accused of being a member of the Al-Qaeda. They portrayed how desperate the government is after the 9/11 tragedy. Everyone is a suspect, especially when you’re an Arab and by the way, happens to work as a chemical engineer. That pretty much screamed ‘TERRORIST’ in their eyes. Never mind that he’s happily married to a beautiful American wife and have an adorable looking son. Whatever happens to the profile that said ‘bombers are loners’?

My point is, this movie did a spectacular job showing the ugly truth of these people’s paranoia and how it affects those innocent souls out there. Their ‘interrogation’ technique is nothing to be surprise about, although seeing it in the movie really broke my heart. The humiliation, fear of not knowing what is going to happen next, and the confusion... they showed it all. I could only imagine how scared one would be in that condition especially when they don’t even know why or what they did to deserve such treatment. Omar Metwally really did a wonderful job playing the Anwar El-Ibrahimi’s character.

And I must say, seeing Reese Witherspoon whom played the pregnant Isabella Fields El-Ibrahimi trying to locate her husband’s whereabout, she without a doubt managed to grab my sympathy on how helpless and desperate she was when every door is being shut to her face the minute she got to close.

I realized that this movie was slammed by a lot of people out there, saying that it’s being melodramatic and many more. But to me, I think that Rendition is a strong movie and very close to the real truth that most people prefer to deny about. And I applaud those who decided to produce this one no matter what their reasons may be. I know it’s easier to shut your eyes and turn the other way round and not caring, but just think for one second, what if it happens to the person you love? Could you choose to be as ignorant then?

I’m deeply impressed by this movie. A strong one and it certainly left an impact in me. 4 stars, guys!

National Treasure: Book of Secrets

Remember the Indiana Jones? With the cave, cowboy hat, and the monkey brain…etc Boy, it was a classic! Not to mention the stiff acts and the one tone voice during the movie like they’re all reading the news. And the very thing that I remember the most is the hanging bridge. Oh, they always have the hanging bridge in treasure hunting movies back then, don’t they? I love those bridges. No one could ever cross those bridges without a hitch. Something bad will always happen.

Treasure hunting was among my favorite childhood fantasies back then, which is why I decided to watch the National Treasure. I didn’t get the chance to watch the first one though, so I have no idea whether it’s a good movie or not and how close it would be to the classic ones that we used to love so much. But then I correctly assumed that there won’t be any scene showing Nicolas Cage or Diane Kruger eating any monkey brains what so ever.

There’s no question that the acting skills have long improved compare to the classic movies, although I do think that those stiff acts are part of the old movie's charm. Nicolas Cage carries his part well and the same goes for the rest of the cast. So, I won’t waste time talking about them.

What I want to talk about is the story itself. For instance, could someone please explain to me, why must you slam someone else’s ancestor publicly just to get his great great great grandson to find the treasure for you? Couldn’t you just approach him peacefully and say, “Hey, let’s find this treasure together.” After all, they way I heard it, they are treasure hunter freaks on the first place, so getting them interested won't be a hard work, right? To me, it's a lame plot to introduce the villain of when he doesn't have to be a villain, but since they need a villain in every movie, they simply threw one desperately. The result, a very confusing individual called Mitch Wilkinson played by Ed Harris. Are you following me so far?

And after watching the whole movie, I still can’t understand the fact that what does finding the buried treasure got anything to do with clearing your ancestor’s name on the first place. So, the treasure exists. That doesn't proved that your ancestor didn’t kill anyone or planned on to? I simply don’t get the logic. Just because you ancestor discovered that there was a treasure hidden somewhere doesn't mean he's not a bad guy.

I was also tickled by the choice of where the treasure was hidden. I won’t spoil it for those who haven’t watched it, but let me just say this… “Are you freaking kidding me?” It was there and no one ever stumble upon it? Come on!” Maybe it’s just me, but the fact that you could get to the front door of the cave by walking on a nice build track without so much of breaking a sweat is just ridiculous. Might as well they just write that the treasure was buried on Nicolas Cage’s backyard!

Overall, I would say that this movie is petty. I’m not sure how else can I call it. It’s just what it is…Petty. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t good either. It feels like they don’t spend that much effort in writing the story. But it was fun to watch nonetheless. The humor and the mischief while looking for clues are entertaining. Oh, and one more thing that I was disappointed about, there was no hanging bridge! How could that be?!

Anyway, for the 10 bucks that I’ve spent on National Treasure: Book of Secrets and the 2 and a half hours of my life I spent watching it, I’m giving it 2.5 stars out of 5.

Alien vs. Predator 2

When a friend of mine heard that I went to this movie he responded by questioning my sanity which is rather appropriate to say the least and I don't blame him a bit. In fact, I kinda expected it. Let me tell you why…

Hmm.. Where do I begin. Let’s start with the fact that this movie has a new creature, a mixture of an alien and predator which I call the Predalien. The thing is, they didn’t even bother to explain how the alien got inside the predator’s body. Out of sudden, the predator became a new hybrid and crashed their spaceship on earth. And this Predalien went aroud town doing what they do best, procreating.

What disappoint me the most is that there was only one Predator chasing the aliens through the entire movie. His friend called out for help by signaling their headquarters before he died and only one guy showed up. What’s up with the Rambo wanna be attitude, huh? I wanted to watch some cool Predator's actions instead I was stucked with one Predator running around trying to kill the Aliens while the human screaming their heads off. It was so freaking annoying!

And I don’t remember the first Alien vs. Predator being filled with clichés. But this one is like the mother of all cliché movies! It was like the Strause Brothers pulled out the Cliché encyclopedia or something and make the movie based on that. Incase you’re wondering, here, some points from the Cliché encyclopedia that they practice in the movie:

#1 Always have the token black kid. This kid shall join the jocks and will be the first among the jocks to die.

#2 All dangerous looking guys must always be seen wearing a black leather jacket.

#3 The movie hero must be a former black sheep of the town. Now that he’s reformed, he must be the sheriff’s buddy and well trusted by all towns’ folks.

#4 Young Blondie must die a horrible death while screaming hysterically down the hall.

#5 Machine guns can’t kill Alien. But a 9mm will.

#6 Someone from the army will know everything, down right from firing a gun, driving a tank and flying a chopper.

#7 The hero will have no problem operating a gun from outer space without a manual.

#8 The hero will always flirts with the nearest middle aged woman, never mind that her husband was just being eaten by an alien.

#9 The middle aged woman will flirts back, never mind that her husband was just being eaten by the alien.

#10 They will survive the chopper crash without so much of a scratch.

Personally, I think Alien vs. Predator 2 came out as nothing more than just a pathetic slasher-like movie with guns. If anything, it looked like a low budget movie.

Therefore, I want you to repeat after me. Tha…moo…vee…is…bad! And I here by give Alien vs. Predator 2 only 1 star.

I Am Legend

The trailer captured my heart and I just couldn’t wait for this movie to come out, which is why the very day I Am Legend was showing in town, I wasted no time and went to watch it. I just couldn’t wait to find out about what actually happened and why is Will Smith a legend… I mean, Dr Robert Naville, played by Will Smith.

It started with the scene of a strangely quite and abandoned looking New York. With cars lining up on the road as if there was a silent traffic jam going on. You know, without horns or people swearing and cursing urging everybody to move on. And I thought, cool! And they got my attention. For a while, at least…

30 minutes through the movie it hit me. It was like watching the Cast Away! Except that I like Will Smith better than Tom Hanks. The only thing that made this movie a little bit more bearable compare to the Cast Away is the fact that Will Smith’s companions was a lively and adorable dog name Samantha which is way more interesting to watch compare to Wilson the volleyball.

Will Smith is a great actor, I always think that and in this movie he was no less. I applaud the way he played his character. However, I must say that the best actor in this movie is Sam the dog. More than once I kept thinking, this dog is good! Seriously, she can act! She almost made me cry.

Let’s talk about the reason why New York was deserted in I Am Legend. This actually reminds me of the Resident Evil. Human were infected by some deadly virus and turned into zombies resulting to the extinctions of mankind. I was disappointed though by the fact that their zombies were to computerized and they are not spooky at all.

To top that disappointment, the ending was too abrupt leaving me asking “Why? Why? Why must they end it that way?” again and again. The whole movie was going in a snail pace and when things got a little exciting, they ended the movie! Now, that was just mean!

I can’t say this movie is bad, because I don’t think that it was that bad. It was slow, I give you that. Still, I was touched by Dr Robert Naville and Sam’s loneliness and will to survive. But I do think that it could be better especially the ending. So, although I was greatly disappointed, I won’t tell you not to watch this movie at all. Just don’t expect a masterpiece because the movie is no where near as exciting as the trailer.

I hereby give I Am Legend 2.5 stars out of 5.

Enchanted

Enchanted is one unique fairytale, a combination of Disney’s classic that we knew so well and the modern time. Beautifully done, I just love the way they started the movie with the female character called Giselle singing merrily simply bringing back memories of the old times Disney’s movies. So there she was singing with birds, squirrels, rats and deer helping around her waiting for her prince. And of course, there must be a monster trying to eat her up like some kind of gummy bear. And the prince comes to the rescue, saving the day. And their eyes met, they ride to the sunset and live happily ever after...

Nope, that’s not all! And this is where the adventure begun. An evil stepmother (of course the stepmother got to be evil, or else it won’t be a fairytale right?) is not happy with the fact that the prince wants to marry someone which in turn will be queen, by all means forcing her to be dethrone. Now, she can’t let that happen, obviously. So, she must do something which she did, resulting Giselle to be thrown into the human world and landed on New York.

And the best part is, you thought her charm doesn’t work on the real world… I mean like singing with the animals and all. But it does! She actually gets to make the cockroaches and the rats to help her doing house chores. I know, it sounded disgusting, but as soon you get pass that, you might actually laugh your heart out.

This movie is silly, to be honest. But silly in a good way, a funny way! They made the simplest thing become so funny and you just can’t stop laughing. Giselle innocence is adorable, paired with Patrick Dempsey negativities, it was just a match made in heaven.

I can’t point of anything bad or wrong about Enchanted. It simply is a fairytale and I love it. I hereby give this movie 4.5 stars!

The Kingdom

This war and terrorist issues in the Middle East is starting to get old for a movie, at least that’s what I think. You shoot them, they shoot you back… it’s an endless exhausting cycle and it will PROBABLY stop when some super villain from outer space come over for their yearly match and start to shoot at every human being in sight.

Long story short, The Kingdom was about a bunch of FBI agents trying to look for a man that was responsible for killing a group of American along with one of their agent in a mass shooting and bombing at the Saudi Arabia. The guy was an Osama wanna-be and this movie is pretty much about their experience being in the Kingdom trying to solve a crime.

The fact that the movie started with a 2 minutes lesson about why the terrorist do what they did was enough to turn me off. I get it, you want to tell people why they bomb other people, but can’t you make it in a movie-ish way? Must you make me sit through a history class to do that?

Watching the Kingdom, I did not connect with any of the FBI agents at all which is disappointing because I’m a huge fan of Jennifer Garner. They were just there in the movie, running around shooting at people or talking to each other, but for some reason none of them made any impression on me. I don’t know them at all, I have no idea why they do what they did and I have no idea what kind of person they are. They made no effort introducing these agents to the audience, except one which is the character played by Jamie Foxx but that is not enough because he wasn’t the only one in the field, Duh!

I must say that this movie is an action movie and nothing more. Even the actions aren’t that impressive either. Some bombing, some shooting, some car being blew up, some guys being punch here and there, and that’s about it. You don’t really have to go Saudi Arabia just to get that kind of action. My point is it wasn’t good enough. It was a weak attempt to make a grand action movie and as a result, it came out as a yawn. Despite the fact that there’s blood everywhere, it still made me yawn.

However, I love it that they showed the honest truth about both side’s promises to kill during the ending. No lame statement such as “We will fight for justice” what so ever. Just a simple “Don’t worry, we will kill them all.”

All and all, the movie is a 2.5 out of 5 stars.

Beowulf

I remembered a long time ago, I was watching Ellen DeGeneres talking about expectations. She said that by having expectations, you’ll easily get disappointed. Without having any however, if something goes well, you’ll be surprise and delighted. Typical Ellen, she made me laugh before she proceeds to dancing around with her audience. I didn’t think much of what she said until after I watched Beowulf.

Buying the ticket to watch Beowulf, I have no expectation what so ever. Not for a second that it crossed my mind if the movie will be good or not. I wasn’t curious about the movie at all. Sitting comfortably in my seat, all that I could think was, what on earth does ‘Beowulf’ mean? And then, the movie starts…

Beowulf was actually a hero. His name, Beowulf actually meant, be wolf. More like Achilles, legendary and well known all over the world. He was obnoxious, arrogant and confident with his ability and reputation. And he came to aid a country that was in terror for being constantly visited by a vicious and ruthless monster called Grendel. Beowulf proudly announced that he will kill the monster, and the story went on…

This movie is different compare to most animated movie that’s out there. It was like a bed time story that you read for your kids with dragons, mermaids and monsters in it but also with a touch of extreme violence and a little ‘adult’ish. I suppose that’s why they even put a warning sign at the ticket counter saying that Beowulf is not a suitable movie for kids!

Trough the entire movie, I was in awe. The story was entertaining and it got my undivided attention. I was interested to know what will happen next and not for a single second that I was bored.

I love the computer animation. It was terrific and almost real. Amazing what they could do now a day with technology, huh? Combined with the sound’s effect, the movie became almost hypnotizing, especially when Grendel’s mother made her appearance. It was breathtaking.

From having no expectation at all about the movie, I came out very pleased and excited. Beowulf was extremely fun and satisfying, not to mention adrenaline pumping! For a magical tale, Beowulf managed to stay away from any cliché and cheesiness. I couldn’t find any flaw in it. What can I say? It was a good movie.

Ellen was right after all. Without expectations, you won’t get disappointed. If you’re lucky, you might even feel amaze! So, I hereby award Beowulf 5 stars!

Lions For Lambs

From the trailer, I thought Lions for Lambs is an action movie. But I couldn’t have been more wrong.

This movie is more like a propaganda talking about the war in the Middle East. They talked about it from every angle, well, almost every angle. They showed the government, the media, the troops and the American citizens’ point of views.

In Lions for Lambs, you can hear how the government tried to justify their act. And you can try to understand why some boys volunteered to be drafted. You can also see the media’s suspicions and their ignorant. And you can hear the American debate between a professor and his student about the war.

Lets see.. How do I write this review about being blatantly obvious about how much anti American government I am? I mean, when it comes to the middle east war issue. Forgive me, honestly, I never agree with the war on the first place and let just admit, we all know that this war is just a power struggle and greed for the oil. And I think it's pointless. It’s Vietnam all over again.

Anyway, maybe it’s just me, but the fact that the senator was played by Tom Cruise made me think that they also wanted to show how big of a joke the government is. And how desperate they are to get the now dimming supports and trusts from the American citizens. At least, that was the impression that they gave me.

Lions for lambs is pretty much a debate, not at all what I expected from the trailer. A debate between a senator and a reporter, and between a professor and his student. I was disappointed with how they ended the movie though, very abruptly, making me asking, “That’s it?” over and over again.

I give Lions for Lambs 2 stars out of 5.

Bee Movie

I’ve watched this movie a week ago, yet only now that I could post my review. The thing is, I’m having trouble trying to come up with any opinions about this movie. When people ask me, “Have you watched the Bee Movie?” I said, “Yeah.” But then when they proceed to asking me “So, how was it?” I said, “I don’t know.”

It’s not like I had a bad time watching the movie. And it’s not like the movie was very bad. That’s the thing, if a movie was bad, I can write a review telling you that it sucks or it’s not worth your money watching it.. etc. And if a movie was good, I’ll write, 5 stars, go watch it or something like that. But the Bee Movie.. Hmmm..

You know what’s worst than a bad movie? A forgettable one. And that’s why I don’t know what to write or comment or say about Bee movie. It’s extremely forgettable. I had a laugh, I watched it ‘till the end, but the minute I stepped out of the movie, I forgot about it. Not like I forgot what was the movie about.. That, I remember. But I couldn’t recall my thoughts about the movie because I suppose I have none. Bee Movie simply didn’t leave any impression on me.

So, how much do I give this movie? 1 stars out of 5? But then, that’s just me.

Anyway, he was one of the reasons why I wanted to watch this movie. Another one was because I have an obsession with vampires. I always think that vampires are cool. At least, the ones that I read about because I have yet seen any vampire movies that impresses me.

Let me start with the not-so-many good points for 30 Days of Nights. I love the fact that the vampires don’t speak English. They have this ancient-like language which matches with the fact that they do not come from any English spoken countries on the first place.

I also like it that David Slade wasn’t shy with the violence and the bloody scenes.

However, it brings me to the not-so-good points. Although I like it that it was violence and bloody, some of the scenes were unnecessarily too messy it almost doesn’t make sense anymore. I can’t help to think that they’re over doing it.

I get the feeling that whoever that involved with this movie making got no idea what so ever regarding the vampires itself, because they tried to make the vampires a modest bunch that worry about the fact that human might now that they actually exist. What on earth?! For centuries, vampires want to be known and to be feared!

The also made the vampires looked stupid and pathetic for a creature that has been living in this world for centuries. And what’s with that screeching sound that they keep on making? It was cool during the first two times, but after that it was just plain annoying.

There are so many things that I want to complaint about this movie, but I’m afraid that it might become a spoiler. But I can say this.. The starting of the movie was too slow and the ending was too dumb. It was like they tried too hard at the beginning of the movie and by the time it reached an hour and fifteen minutes, they got too tired and thought.. “Let just end it. I don’t care how, but just end it.”

As a result, it is another disappointing vampire movies. I give this one a 1.5 stars out of 5. Take that!

The Bourne Ultimatum

I barely remember the previous two Bourne movies. I remember what it was about, but I don’t remember how it went exactly. What I do remember is, I liked it. That’s why when Bourne Ultimatum first released it trailer, I was super excited.

Bourne is looking for his real identity and trying to figure out what happened to him. And the people behind all this are trying their hardest to find him and kill him. It’s practically a chase between Bourne and ‘them’. They chased him and he chased them back. Pretty much that’s Bourne Ultimatum all about.

They have more of ‘Bourne kind’ chasing after Bourne himself, which makes the fights and the chase last longer. You know, when you send super agent trying to take out another super agent, it makes the fight and chase scene worth watching.

This is one kick ass movie, I tell ‘ya! The moves were quick and smooth. It doesn’t look like it was choreographed at all. When Jason Bourne was on a roll, no body can stop him. And the best part is, Jason Bourne made James Bond looked like a sissy!

What else can I say? This is a cool action movie. And I’m giving this one 4 out of 5 stars. Way to go Jason Bourne!

I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry

I have nothing against the gay community, let me clear that up first before I go on with my review.

But I do have something against Adam Sandler. I find his accent a little annoying. However, I can’t seem to stay away from his movies. Despite that red neck accent of his, he always makes me laugh. So, I guess, good sense of humour is enough to make our relationship work, huh Sandler?

Anyway, let’s talk about Chuck and Larry. They are best friends both working as a fireman, everyday facing danger and the uncertainty whether or not they will be alive at the end of the day. While Larry worries about the well-being of his kids if he dies, Chuck busies himself playing around with girls. Until one day, they both got into an accident and Chuck realizes he should do something in order to guarantee his children’s future. Long story short, his plan requires them both to pretend to be gay.

This is when Chuck suddenly met Jessica Beil, his dream girl!

Why should you watch this movie, you may ask. Well, I have no idea why, but I’ll tell you what I think.

I like this movie because it was straight to the point. I like the fact that it didn’t drag it feet like some movie do when they want to introduce the characters. The storyline was simple combined with killer jokes that tickle you like crazy. They have just the right combination of cheesiness and humours that makes the movie an A plus comedy movie. That’s one good reason why you should watch it.

Since Chuck loves to play around with different girls every night, there were a bunch of hot and sexy girls in it. And Jessica Beil plays her character very well, along with everybody else in this movie. For guys, you’ll get your 10 seconds chance to ogle at her body which is another good reason why you should spend 10 bucks to watch this movie.

This movie wasn’t too gay, if you’re not a big fan of the gay community. Although, it does teaches you not to judge people based on their sexual preferences.. As long they’re not pedophiles, I might add. It also teaches you the value of friendship which is quite touching at some point.

I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry is one damn hilarious movie. It’s an ideal movie for you to just sit back and laugh your head off! I hereby award Chuck and Larry 3 stars out of 5!

Resident Evil: Extinction

The third Resident Evil which humanity is facing the extinction. The T-virus has wiped out almost the entire human causing them to turn into mindless, barbaric and disgusting looking zombie and causing the world to become some kind of a wasteland. Oh dear, I hope that would never happen in the real world.

Anyway, Milla Jovovich played Alice as usual, now possess a new upgraded psychic power. And she’s kicking ass! The way she escaped from those crazy zombie dogs. Super cool! Ops, there’s a tiny spoiler. Sorry.

However, I must say that I still like the first Resident Evil better. Resident Evil the Extinction doesn’t have as much combat scene which what makes the movie rocks on the first place. Plus, half of the movie, Alice was more of a loner and it made the movie a bit.. quiet. I like it that she has psychic power, though.

The ending was exhilarating but they just love to leave you hanging, don’t they. I honestly hope that there’ll be the fourth Resident Evil although I doubt that since Milla Jovovich is pregnant now, she’ll want to be naked all the time like she always does in the all three Resident Evil’s movies! Haha!

I hereby give Resident Evil the Extinction 4 stars.

The Invasion

I read in Yahoo’s News about a group of scientist that brought a type of virus to space. This virus that they brought is the culprit that usually causes food poisoning. Their study shows that being to space and back on earth causes the virus to become more dangerous and fatal. This is real, guys!

The Invasion, on the other hand was about an infected space shutter with some kind of alien microorganism. The space shutter crashed and infected every human that came in contact with the virus.. microorganism.. well, whatever you want to call it.

Those who are infected will turn into an emotionless and cold creature. However, in order for the virus to take charge and change the human, they need the human to fall asleep. And pretty much that was the movie about, seeing Nicole Kidman trying to stay awake so that she wouldn’t turn into an alien and keep her son away from harm.

The story line and the concept may sounds a bit ridiculous. But I was very surprise to found that it wasn’t bad at all.

This movie managed to keep me interested and constantly gripping my seat in suspense. It sure kept my eyes glued to the screen, partly because I always think that Nicole Kidman is such a good actress and partly because the got a bunch of fascinating plots. Not to mention that Daniel Craig did his part well too.

I wont tell you any more than I already did about The Invasion except I was wondering how come not once Nicole Kidman ever tried drinking coffee in order to stay awake. Having said that, I think this movie will give you a rush of adrenaline and it wouldn’t bore you at all. Therefore, I will give The Invasion 3 stars out of 5.

Knocked Up

This is a gentle reminder about those party animals out there. One night stand could haunt your entire life. Having said that, let’s talk about the movie.

Obviously, Knocked Up is about Katherine Heigl playing Alison Scott got.. well, knocked up! And in this movie we get to see how it being knocked up affected her life and how she dealt with it. Ok, I would like to stop using the word ‘knocked up’ now.

The strength in this movie doesn’t lie in the story line. It’s in it comedy and humours. The storyline is average although they do have a good concept. And I liked the way they showed how men and women think about each other in a relationship. Not to mention that they showed it in a light and humorous way. And I kept laughing all the way till the end.

Katherine Heigl paired up with Seth Rogen seems like a ridiculous looking pair, right? It’s like beauty and the beast. I guess, it was kinda the whole point. But at the end of the day, they pulled it off and they do look like they compliment each other. Watch the movie, and then you’ll know what I mean.

If romantic movie isn’t your kind of thing, worry not, my friend. The jokes could overcome all the cheesiness in it. In fact, the jokes made the cheesy moments worth while. Word on the street is, people tend to compare this movie with the 40 year old virgin. I don’t really get why. Well, of course it was directed by the same person, still, these movies are entirely opposites. But for what it worth, I like this one better that the 40 year old virgin.

I had fun watching this movie however, it isn’t that memorable. I may laugh while watching it but it’s not one of those that kept you smiling after you walked out of the movie theatre. And because of that, I’m giving this movie 2.5 stars out of 5.

Rogue Assassin

Rogue Assassin or in the US the title of this movie is, War. Not sure why it got different version of tittle for different countries, but hey, I'm more interested about the movie. So, here goes..

Ever since The Transporter, I have this fascination over Jason Statham. I always picture him as this cool cold dude, hit man like, with dangerous quality and swift moves. And if you ask me, I’ll say he should be the hit man in the Hitman movie instead of Timothy Olyphant. Seriously!

And I’ve always like Jet Li. I think he’s the next Bruce Lee. And off I went, to watch this movie because my first impression was; this movie has the coolest casts’ combination.

Rogue Assassin was about a war between the Triad and the Yakuza. Here’s a simple picture, the Triad go around and killed the Yakuza. The Yakuza go around and killed the Triad. The FBI enters the war and killed everybody!

Sounds simple right? Well, pretty much. The main reason why this movie was good, at least, the most part of it, was the action and the blood. It’s a whole kick-ass movie filled wit guns, nice cars, kung fu, and ninjas too. Plus, Jason Statham driving an old American car trying to race with Jet Li with his super cool car (which I don’t remember what car it was, but definitely not American’s) was just classic!

I loved this movie. The most part of it, like I said. 99% of it. Until it reached the ending. The ending, oh dear.. The part when Jason made a confession to Jet Li. I won’t tell you what it is because it’ll be a spoiler. But, the confession was just dumb. That was the dumbest, lowest point of the movie. And it pretty much spoiled all the excitement and the love that I was feeling throughout the entire movie before that. Why? Why? Why?!! Why do they have to ruined it with that confession?

And because of that, my ‘ideology’ regarding Jason Statham changes. At least, for now. Not sure if I will ever recover, though. And because of that, I’m give Rogue Assassin, 2.5 out of 5 stars. Sorry, Jason..

The Brave One

At the beginning, the movie started a bit slow. Trying to portray the main character, Erica Bain as happy, in love and set for life. Thinking that New York is home, a city with it goods and bad, but never horrifying. And then, one unfortunate night, being at the wrong place at the wrong time, Erica and her fiancé was attack by bunch of thugs. Erica survived but her fiancé did not. Living her, alone, scared, traumatized, and changed.

This is a movie about a normal citizen, affected by the ever growing crime that has been happening all around the world. She finally had enough, feeling that the authority isn’t doing enough and decided to take matter into her own hand.

I was a bit turned off by the slow start, but it picked itself up again about 30 minutes after that. Right after that, it shows how someone doesn’t simply recover from such heinous experience, but they change. They carry grudge, anger and bitterness inside them toward all ‘bad guys’.

I admire the way they convey the fact that Erica Bain was cynics toward the authority. And although she chooses the vigilante justice’s path, still, she’s haunted by her own conscience. Jodie Foster carried this character very well. The coldness in her eyes, the restlessness that she has to live with, it just suits her. Despite the snail pace in this movie, for what is worth, Jodie Foster’s performance made up for it.

I give this one 3 stars!

Happy Feet

Mumble can't sing. With those penguins, Mumble went out to a new adventure, trying to solve a mystery about "where does all the fish goes?"

That's it. That's all I'm going to tell you about the movie. Too much then it'll be a spoiler, right?

But what I can tell you is, this movie has a lot of good and fun song in it. When they sing and dance, you just want to clap your hand and dance with them. And I'm talking about bunch of penguins here. You may think, how can you feel like dancing and clapping by watching bunch of penguins. Yep, they're THAT good.

And with those Latino penguins, you just couldn't stop laughing. I'm telling you, they are hilarious!

What I love the most about the movie is the dance that they did together through the end of the movie. I believe that's the coolest penguin dance I ever see.

How many stars? Why, 5 of course!

Pixar's Animated - Cars

Some of you may think that this is a kiddie movie. I'm not a big fan of Tom Cruise, I tell you that. But, I am a J.J Abrams follower!

No one knows how to make a spy movie better than J.J does. He's the best, hands down. When J.J is around, cool gadgets will appear. The moves, the talks, cool cars and the missions, all works perfectly when J.J is around. And must I tell you about the villain and the bad guys? The couldn't get any more cooler than that. Seriously, MI3 was perfect! Well, other than the fact that Tom Cruise was there, it was, the bomb!

However, the storyline was almost the same with all other MI movies. Tom Cruise running around saving a chick. In this case, his wife. Still, MI3, as far as I can remember is the only MI movie that portrayed team work, which I think a smart move since people kinda bored with Tom Cruise now a day, don't you think?

Don't expect too much about the storyline and the logic, come on, it's a movie! And yes, there's bunch of clichés here and there. Still, I think it's a terrific spy movie. A very very cool action movie.

So, call me bias, but I'm giving this one 4 stars.

300

I've always been fascinated when it comes to the Spartans. I think they're the greatest warrior ever existed in this world, and I've always have such a high respect for them. And I've watched the old version of 300, so, I was very anxious to see this one.

300 reflected everything. How the Spartans lived, thought and acted. This movie succeed in painting the very truthful picture regarding their culture. The cast, the uniforms and their beliefs, it's all in there.

It's a great war movie. The way they present this movie is also a bit unique. Almost like the work of art. It's as if you're watching a moving portraits. You can see that they give a lot of attention toward details. It's no where near like the usual movies that we used to watch. Though, I must say, it's a bloody movie. Heads rolling, blood spurting.. a true war movie.

The storyline was simple. I get the impression that they weren't interested in changing the story like most movie producers does. That's one of the reason that I love this movie.

I love it! I had fun watching it and I truly believe that 300 is one of the most beautiful movie ever made. So, yes, I give this one 5 stars!

Evan Almighty

Honestly, the main reason why I wanted to watch this movie is because I wanted to see Lauren Graham since I'm a big fan of the Gilmore Girls.

Evan Almighty is a straight forward movie, reenacting Noah's journey about building an ark. Showing you how a congressman, chosen by god to save people and the animal from the big flood. I enjoyed it nonetheless. It's silly and funny. The animals are fun to watch. Plus, to see Morgan Freeman as god was pretty entertaining.

This movie is light and relaxing. Portrays a family that's falling apart because of the madness but still managed to find their way back to each other. Suitable for parents to take their kids to, I'm sure they will love it. But for the others, other than a few good laugh, it's just another movie.

For this one, I'll give 3 stars as this is a good kiddie movie though. Ocean's 13. The gang is back in business. Only this time, they're more interested in revenge after a casino owner Willie Bank (Al Pacino) double-crossed one of the ocean's member, Reuben (Elliot Gould). Their plan was to make Willie loose a lot of money by sabotaging his casino's grand opening night.

The best part about this movie is seeing the plan coming together and their solutions to every single glitch that they encountered. And what made the movie more exciting is, how they tried to mess around with the casino without being caught. It's hilarious! I had fun watching the Oceans work together yet again.

Compare to the other Ocean's movies, I must say this one is the best. The plot is better than ever and the guys are as cool as always. So, what else could you ask for, right? It's perfect. And how George Clooney and Brad Pitt keep having those 'talk' about relationship tickled me. Especially when they cried watching Oprah!

Would I watch this movie again? Oh, yes! I'll give the Ocean's Thirteen 4 stars!

Rush Hour 3

Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan have this bond between each other. When they act together, it put a smile on your face. Chris's wit and Jackie's innocent look. It made you laugh uncontrollably. And this time, they're going to Paris!

It has good action scene as the Rush Hour 1 and 2 always delivered. However, i must say, I'm a little dissapointed with this one. Don't get me wrong, it's a good movie and I enjoyed it very much. But as the third Rush Hour you expect it to be better than the prequels right? Sadly for me, it's not. In fact, I think it's the weakest one.

It's hilarious and I had a good laugh. But once a while, I can't help but feel that some of the jokes are a bit cheap and desperate which I expect better from Rush Hour. Maybe this time they're trying too hard. Or maybe you just couldn't make the movie any better the one before was already the best. I don't know.. All I know is, Rush Hour 3 is the weakest one compare to the Rush Hour 1 and 2.

So, I hereby give this movie 2.5 stars.

Babyville

In Bayville, you’ll meet Julia, a wildly successful television producer who appears to have the picture-perfect life. But beneath the surface, things are not as perfect as they seem. Stuck in a loveless relationship with her boyfriend, Mark, Julia thinks a baby is the answer.. but she may want a baby more than she wants her boyfriend. Maeve, on the other hand, is allergic to commitment. A feisty, red-haired, high-power career girl, she breaks out in a rash every time she passes a stroller. But when her no-strings-attached nightlife leads to an unexpected pregnancy, her reaction may be just as unexpected. And then there’s Samantha -- happily married and eager to be the perfect June-Cleaver mother. But baby George brings only exhaustion, extra pounds, and marital strife to her once tidy life. Is having an affair with a friend’s incredibly sexy husband the answer?

Personally, I think this book start a bit slow. But to get turn off by it and keep going, and soon you’ll find yourself not being able to put it down. Jane Green has a freaky talent of hypnotizing you with her simple yet amusing books. In this one, she opened the door for you to get glimpse of how 3 women trying to adjust and settle themselves into commitment and motherhood challenges. You get the idea how a baby, in person or in theory, could change how you think and your lifestyle completely.

I’m not going to be a spoiler and tell you everything about the book. But what I will tell you are this book has a good concept. Plus, the emotions that Babyville portrays simply worked their way through my heart and touched me. Don’t get me wrong though, Babyville isn’t depressing, it’s a light reading material that keeps your mind off everything else and more than often makes you laugh. Although, I do feel a little disappointed with Julia’s character, wishing that Jane Green would tell me more about her happy ending, certainly more than a phone call. Ooops, a little tiny spoiler there! Sorry!

I say, it’s a good book. How good? Hmm.. About a 3.5 stars good.

The Simpsons Movie

Springfield was trapped in a dome. A huge large dome! And it was all Homer's fault. A weird story line, right? Pretty stupid too. It's funny, it's crazy, it's ridiculous, but a good kind of ridiculous! I can't stop laughing watching this movie and it kept me smiling even after the movie ended.

Looks like they found a way to convey the global warming message with a sense of humour, huh? Since I was already in front of the ticket counter, I though, oh well.. Let’s just watch the Vacancy.

Basically this movie was about a married couple (Kate Beckinsale and Luke Wilson) got lost and their car broke down in the middle of the night so they decided to spend the night at a cheap motel out of no where. Turn out to be the motel was run by a psycho killer/sick movie maker/video tape seller. Wha?!! Yeah, exactly what I was thinking. But then it’s a slasher movie, so I wasn’t expecting anything less on the first place.

The acting was good, although the starting of the movie, Kate Beckinsale and Luke Wilson keep on jumping on each other’s throat and it was annoying. And from time to time Vacancy made me jump a few time. But that was the only good thing about the movie. Other than that, it was ridiculous!

For starters, Vacancy got the worst looking slasher killer of all. And the fact that they tape their killings in the honeymoon suite and sell it to the truckers, what was that all about? The truckers?! You risk yourself getting a death penalty for that? It’s a honeymoon suite, right? Might as well you tape the honeymooners having sex and sell it on the net, that could make you a better business!

Oh well, at least, this is the movie that offers you a logical explanation regarding how a slasher killer could appear out of nowhere. Another thing that I learned from Vacancy was, after a good night sleep, you’ll be able to defeat the bad guys single handedly. So, people, panic no more, get your beauty sleep and everything will be ok.

How much would I give for this movie? Hmm.. 2 out of 5 stars would be all. Oh, by the way, was the raccoon part of the plan too? Haha!

Swapping Lives

Vicky Townsley is single, solvent, and seriously successful. And when Vicky and Amber swap life, both realize what they’ve been missing and learn about themselves in a way neither of them thought what they would.

In a light and easy way Jane Green manage to show us what happens when these two women swap life, walk in each other’s shoes and discover that their life wasn’t bad at all. I personally think that this book is a lovely book and it a must read. I must say, Jane Green captures my heart again and I will give her 4 out of 5 stars!

Bookends by Jane Green

Catherine Warner and Simon Nelson are best friends: total opposites, always together, and both unlucky in love. Cath is scatterbrained, messy, and–since she had her heart broken a few years back–emotionally closed off. Si is impossibly tidy, bitchy, and desperate for a man of his own. They live in London’s West Hampstead along with their lifelong friends, Josh and Lucy, who are happily married with a devil-spawn child and a terrifying Swedish nanny, Ingrid.

All is well until the sudden come back of a college friend–the stunningly beautiful Portia, who’s known for breaking hearts. Though they’ve grown up and grown apart from Portia, the four friends welcome her back into the fold. But does Portia have a hidden agenda or is she merely looking to reconnect with old friends? Her reappearance soon unleashes a rollicking series of events that tests the foursome’s friendships to the limit and leaves them wondering if a happy ending is in store.

Bookends basically is about friendship. The closeness of Cath and Si really touched my heart and brought a smile on my face. And I must say I really love Lucy’s character and I can’t help but wish I have a ‘Lucy’ in my life. Ingrid on the other hand is a really colorful character, a nightmare but still make you throw your head back and laugh!

All and all, I just love this book. It’s a really funny book and it easily transports you into it owns world and make you forget about anything else. It’s one of those books that is easy to read and really left something in my heart for quite sometimes. For this one, I’d give it 4.5 out of 5 stars!

Harry Potter and the Order of The Phoenix

The casts are all grown up except, well, the grown ups themselves. And for some reason, the Harry Potter movie suddenly began to feel like a grown up movie which is a turn around considering that it started as a kid’s thing. Right?

There was just too little in the movie. Probably they should extend the movie into a 3 hours one because 2 and a half hour just simply isn’t enough. Plus, I remembered the other 4 movies gave me this excitement when watching them, but this one doesn’t have that same effect.

I think this movie is too depressing compare to the other 4. Although I do get why, since it was about Harry Potter’s mind being in contact with the Lord Voldermort himself, whom not a happy dude. However, there’s depressing and there’s too depressing. And this one is to level of disturbing. Not that it’s bad, only I’m assuming it wouldn’t go well with the little children. I bet this movie will be hard for them to understand and some might find it boring.

3 stars out of 5 is all that I would give. I don't care what the others might think!

Transformers by Michael Bay

I was born in the 80’s and I took pride to be the generation that watches Transformers everyday. So, when I heard that they’re making the Transformers’ movie, I couldn’t contain myself. What took them so long is the first thing that came to mind.

The movie was grand, I give you that. Very! But I wish they would show a bit more of Megatron. I’m the kind of person whom treasure a good villain’s role in a movie, and to my disappointment, Megatron came out a too late and it kind of give people the impression that he’s not that big of deal anyway. I mean, he was supposed to be the biggest villain in Transformers, right? Then how come there’s so little of him in the movie? Another thing is, they sort of portrayed the good Autobots to be cute. Like when they’re hiding from the parents scene. Other than bumblebee, Transformers aren’t suppose to be cute!

There’s a lot of funny dialogues in this movie which wasn’t so bad if it’s not too much. I have nothing against funny lines but a little too much made this movie looked like a joke. Although, I did have a good laugh, but after that, it hit me that why is Transformers suppose to be funny again? I don’t remember laughing this much when I was watching the cartoon. So, pretty much the concept itself was ruined.

I’m hoping there would be a sequel since Starscream as always, flee. So, please, please, please let it be a sequel. Part of me was hoping also that Megatron somehow comes back because there’s just too little of him I almost feel like it’s a waste of a very good character. And I give Transformers, 3.5 stars out of 5.

Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer

Let me start with the Silver Surfer himself. I like him. He’s one of the not-so-bad-guy that look good and he definitely got style. And the way he handled Johnny Storm was so cool.

Ok, compare to the first Fantastic 4 movie, I’d say this one is way better. Which is forgivable for the first one because I always think that for movies like this, the prequel is always harder to make because it is when you have to introduce the main character to the world, you know what I mean?

However, I do feel that the Rise of the Silver Surfer is a bit lame. No. not the concept, god forbid, I don’t dare go around and say anything out of the legendary Marvel is lame! I mean, how the movie went. I couldn’t really put my finger on what’s wrong, but there’s something about the movie that didn’t make ‘wow’ enough.

Oh well, I give this movie a 3 stars out of 5 anyway because despite the lameness that I couldn’t really put my finger on, they do entertained me and most importantly, they did manage to make the Silver Surfer looked cool!

Spiderman 3

The thing that I hate so much with this Spiderman movie is how helpless and annoying Mary Jane is. All she does is screams and get in everybody’s way of saving the world!

And what’s with the American flag scene? Oh my god! For me personally, it’s not about the story itself, because pretty much we all know what’s going to happened from the comics. Although I do think that all of the villains are all a bit ‘soft’ and not as ‘villainish’ as they’re suppose to be. You know what I mean?

Venom’s role was too little for my satisfaction. I know.. I know.. They still need to insert a lot of things in the movie and for 140 minutes there’s only so many things you could compress into a movie. But I don’t care. Make it a five hour movie if you have too. If any movie deserve to be made longer, a legendary Spiderman is one of them, am I right?

All and all, what’s my reaction after watching Spiderman 3? All I can do is sigh.. I give this movie 2 stars out of 5.

NEXT

I don’t really like Nicholas Cage because of his sleepy retarded look. But I guess, in certain movie, I could tolerate him such as this one. Although I like this movie, for some reason, I don’t have much to say about it. Probably because it is a good action movie but nothing more. The whole movie was about the FBI trying to prevent a nuclear terrorist attack and Nicholas Cage, using his ability to foreseen the future eventually agreed to help them. And off they go, scouring around town and some shootings involved, but then, that’s about it. Like I said, it was a good action movie, period. Nothing more. How much would I give? Well, hmm.. 3 out of 5? Yeah, whatever.
